What is TEDx BrainTrain?
TEDx BrainTrain is a side event of TEDx Maastricht and is organised in collaboration with Dutch Railways and the SocialCoupé. In the intercity train between Maastricht and Amsterdam Central Station, inspiring talks by interesting speakers will be held in the same way as the main TEDx Maastricht event in the theatre at the Vrijthof.
For who is this event?
TEDx BrainTrain is open to the general public. Anyone traveling by train (with a valid ticket) can enter the coach where the talks will be held and enjoy with fellow passengers the broad variety of exciting topics that all fall within the theme of TEDx Maastricht ‘9 Billion and You!’.
How will this be done?
Talks (in English!) will be given between stations (Maastricht – Sittard, Sittard Roermond, and so on); in total 8 talks until we reach Amsterdam Central Station. The return train on the same day will have different speakers, so 16 in total on the entire two-way journey.
Talks will not (always) last the entire duration of the trip between stations, and so there will be time for questions and a conversation between passengers. In line with the SocialCoupé, where passengers are encouraged to engage in a conversation, we follow the same principle during our journey. Above all, this should be fun and leave you inspired at the end of your trip.
What you can expect
If you are familiar with TED, than you know that this is all about ‘Ideas worth sharing’. We have selected speakers that all have interesting ideas, do amazing things, work on innovative technologies, and have stories worth listening to. The ‘9 Billion and You!’ theme is all about the world in the year 2050 and how we can meet the challenges in the coming decades to get us there.
Where and when?
The last coach of the intercity train leaving Maastricht on 1 and 3 September will be reserved for the TEDx BrainTrain. On the platform you will see us with a sign of TEDx Maastricht BrainTrain. Embark, sit down, enjoy and participate. That’s all.
On Sunday 1 September the train will be leaving Maastricht at 10.58 hrs and arrive in Amsterdam at 13.22 hrs. The return trip will leave Amsterdam at 14.08 hrs and arrive in Maastricht at 16.32 hrs.
On Tuesday 3 September the train will be leaving Maastricht at 09.58 hrs and arrive in Amsterdam at 12.22 hrs. The return trip will leave Amsterdam at 13.08 hrs and arrive in Maastricht at 15.32 hrs.
Note that you will have to have a valid train ticket like any other passenger!
Do you have an interesting idea worth sharing?
We have one slot available for a person interested in giving a TED-like talk. If you have an inspiring idea that the world should know about, then visit the page with more information on how to participate (click here). Do so before 20 August!
We encourage media coverage before, during, and after the event. Journalists are welcome and can interview speakers and organisers in the adjacent coach. Contact Eefje Perey firstname.lastname@example.org for media coverage before the event.
We look forward to welcoming you all on board of the TEDx BrainTrain! The first in history!
TEDx Maastricht and Dutch Railways keep the right to change or cancel the event without notifying the public, should circumstances dictate so. TED, TEDx Maastricht nor the NS can be held responsible for any eventuality related to this event.
