He’s described himself as direct, pragmatic and bon-vivant… he’s part of the team responsible for partnerships, the lustrum after party and event management…
It’s Max van Meer!

What gets you out of bed in the morning?
What gets me out of bed in the morning is my son and daughter. Literally speaking and figuratively speaking. They make me a more gentle person.

What can we wake you up for?
Well actually, you could wake me up for good night sleep.

What drew you towards TEDx Maastricht?
I like that TEDx gives a platform to normal people that have original ideas that can bring positive change to the world. The fact that Maastricht hosts one of the most successful TEDx events of the Netherlands, emphasises the potential of Maastricht as an innovative region.

If you could have any superpower what would it be and why?
I would like to have the superpowers of Professor X at X-men, and specifically his power to control other people’s minds. I would use it to control the minds of world leaders in order to fight corruption.

What’s your favourite part of being a TEDx Maastricht team member?
The team consists of dedicated members from all different kinds of background. I like the fact that these different people have a common interest to help spread ‘Ideas worth spreading’.

What is your background?
I was born in Heerlen and Moved to Amsterdam when I was 18. I studied International Financial Economics at the University of Amsterdam. After having worked in the banking industry for 7 years, I joined a small trading company that was active in the (at the time relatively new) Environmental Commodity markets. The company grew from 5 to 50 people in about 3 years and I was asked to become the Managing Director. I have seen a lot of Europe and the world during that period and I have done business with a very broad range of nationalities and different cultures.

When our two children were born, my wife and I decided to move back to Maastricht to live a more balanced life closer to our family. I am now investing in small scale real estate renovation projects in Maastricht. Furthermore, I am a guest speaker for finance subjects at the Hogeschool Zuyd.
